THE GAS QUESTION.
To the Editor. Sir,—l noticed a letter in to-day's Age, signed Joseph Cullen, complaining of the advance in price of gas, for which he seems unable to account. The reason is clear. All the hotels are closed, and as their very great consumption of gas is out off the Borough Council must make up the deficit in the only alternative way that lett, viz, Dy raising the price on other people. This seems the | first evil effect of No-license, and if Mr J. U. and oihers who closed the hotels at last polling day have to pay for it, serves them right.— I am, etc., WHISKY. July 13th. (It may astonish our correspondent to learn that the price of gas in Masterton has not been raised; therefore "the first evil effect of No- | license" can hardly be s-id to have cume into existence.—Ed. W.A.) i
