MASTERTON COUNTY COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The Mafrterton County Council met yesterday afternoon, there being present:—Crs W. J. Welch, D. W.Forman, J. Millar, J. Morris, H. 0. Toogood, J Colquhoun, A. Murray, and R. F. Beetham. The Chief Engineer of Roads wrote to authorise the expenditure of
a further £IOO on Jhuraua bridge. Messrs Hollinga and Pragnell, aviators, wrote on behalf of Mr S. Connell, protesting against the removal of gravel from his river frontage by road contractors.
The Masterton Borough Council wrote asking that the fencing of the junction road between Cockburn and Colombo road be proceeded with at once.
The Maeterton-Pongaroa-Waipuku-rau Railway League wrote asking for information respecting the numb<?r Qf ratepayers. likely to u?e th» litie iii the Council's jurisdiction, the area likely to be affectd, and the area cleared and cultivated for a distance of twelve miles along the route.
Messrs D. McGregor, Dagg Bros., and Hood, wrote requesting payment of the contribution promised them towards the Waignawa river protective works.
The Wairarapa South County Council wrote suggesting that more willows be plated to protect further the Waignawa bridge. It waH decided to put this work in hand.
Mr T. A. Weston wrote applying for a license to slaughter at premises at Kopuaranga. —It was decided to recommend the f granting of the license.
Mr G. Laing-Measbn, engineer for. the Ooaki-Lansjowne high pressure water scheme, reported ea-H progress with the work on No. 1 contract, in view of the unfavourable weather. The engineer recommended that Mr A. H. Wrightson be permitted to instal a ram near his house. On No. 2 contract th.9 ferroconcrete reservoir was nearly completed, the pipe line round the lake having been finished. Mr LaingMeason said the proposal to make the building'of the ram house an extra to Messrs Burke and Buckley's contract. A competent was being engaged to instal the ram machinery. The two railway culverts were nearly completed. The report was adopted. The Council accepted the tender of Messrs Andrews and Hayes of £l2B 7s 6d for fencing the water races where necessary.
