MAIL SORTERS AND CONSUMPTION. Received July 12, 11.10 p.m. MELBOURNE, July 12. Giving evidence before the Postal Commission, the Vice-President of the Letter Sorters Association declared that a large percentage of the deaths from tuberculosis amor.gst sorters was due to the unhealthy conditions under which the men worked. Complaints had been made, but were unheeded. It was estimated that 8 perr centum of the deaths of sorters was caused by consumption. In his opinion the habit of people licking stamps communicated consumption.
