The Puketoi Union's Senior Championship is still in doubt, as another . drawn gama was played last Saturday between Pongaroa and Rakanui on ■ the former's ground. 1 The match was an interesting one to watch, and was witnessed by a large gathering. Mr G. Smich has been appointed referee in the Nireaha-Hamua match on Saturday. The finish of most of the Senior snatches lately has been played fin the dark, which is annoying to the spectators. JTor the Dannevirke Sub-Union championsip Woodville defeated ®annevirke on the latter's ground by 11 points to nil, and Excelsiors 'beat Aotea by 6 points to nil. Woodville are still leading for the banner. A man named William J. Horn, charged with being idJ-e and disorderly was brought before Messrs J. D. Wilson and A. Reese, JJP.'s, this morning, and sentenced to one months' imprisonment. The ordinary meeting of-Lodge Pahlatua, U.A.0.D., was held in the Foresters' Hall Hast evening. Bio. Swiggs, A.D., ipresided, and there was a good attendance of members, including severail from the country. Two new members were initiated into the Order, and two proposed for membership. Other routine business was transacted. "Messrs E. B. Hare and Co., land agents, report sale of Mr W. H. Buick's 100 -acre farm at Scarborough tu Mr C. Avery, junr., of Mr Buick took up this'piece of land during the dry summer, in order to relieve his Wairarapa tfarm, and sent part of hiis «tud sheep up there with very satisfactory results. ' A settler of this district stated this morning that the road to Ballance was getting woirn through to (the formation in several places* on Birilie's Hill. He also .referred to. the rough state of the Main road to Konini. In one place a; relic of bygone days in the shape of a top of * large matai stump .ie showing above the metal some three or,four'inches. I understand that 'tbe County teams are at present making & c cnmcelisent to re-metai tbe above-mentioned ibads. The Woodville Hunt Club' Steeplechase meeting, to be held: in, August, is at present engaging the attention Of horse-owners, and judging by the condition of some of the : local horses, some good jumping i-and flat racing should be witnessed.
