CASTLEPOINT COUNTY.

The ordinary meeting of the Castlepoint County Council was held on Saturday last. All the Councillors were present. The Commissioner of Crown Lands advised that the tender sent by the Council for a 14 years" lease of the Landing Reserve at Castlepoint had been accepted, and the lease would be prepared in due course. Messrs Pinhey Bros, applied for leave to erect a few poles on the road between the Post Office in Tinui and their new stables, to connect with the telephone wire. This was granted on the usual conditions. Mr W. G. Groves applied to have the deviation in the road from the main road to Bushgrove legalised. This was agreed to on the cost being paid by the estate. The Engineer furnished a report of the progress made by the contractors for the Whakataki Valley road which was satisfactory. The McKenzie County Council wrote asking for co operation in approaching the Government on a proposed amendment to the Land Act whereby fourths from pastoral runs would be paid to local bodies. It was agreed to. ask the Member for the district to support the proposal when brought up in the House. The Masterton Town Clerk advised that a meeting of delegates was convened for the 7th July to consider the question of a Hospital and Charitable Aid Board for Wairarapa apart from Wellington. The secretary to the proposed railway via Pongaroa applied for information to assist a deputation to the Minister of Public Works which should represent the counties interested in the railway. The request was agreed to and the Clerk was directed to correspond with Mr Daniel! on the advisability of holding a meeting in Tinui to discuss the question of route of the proposed line. It was decided to make applications for grants for the several unfinished roads and metalling roads in the County. It was also decided to endeavour to get a regular, weekly service by steamer to Castlepoint from Wellington. I Accounts amounting to £486 8s 8d were passrel for payment.
