RACING
The boy who rode the winner of the Metropolitan Stakes the other day—J. E. Evans—was two years ago living from hand to mouth in the streets of Liverpool, saya a London paper. Making up his mind to be a jockey, he obtained an interview with Mr Hallick, who was staying at the Adelphi Hotel. Struck by the lad's persistence the trainer engaged him as an apprentice in a racing stable. Last year he rode 13 winners, and now he has won one of the most important events of the season.
