PAHIATUA NEWS.

(From Oar Resident Reporter). Friday. , The Pahiatua County Council will hold their monthly meeting to-mor-row morning. The Borough Council will meet on Monday evening. The first meeting of the Hospital Trustees to take place in the after noon, instead of the evening will be held on Thursday next, at 4 o'clock The new arrangement should suit the country members. The following golf players will journey to Dannevirke to-morrow (Saturday) to play a match against the T3annevirke Club: —Messrs 0. H. Druce, J. 0. Lilly, H. M. B. Marshall. G. H. Smith, C. J. Norton, 11. McSharry, W. J. Collins, J. G Swainson, E. B. Hare, W. Tosawill, E. J. Hughes, Ulrich, White-Scott, On the local links to-morrow the ladies' club play the first round for the President trophy. Owing to the damp weather last Saturday, the first round of the President's trophy in connection with the Men's Club was not finished.

Keen interest is being taken in the youth's mile skating race, the second heat having been won by J. Donaldson. This evening the linai vviil btieun oft'.

,A football match between Woodville and Mangatainoka will be played at Mangatainoka on Wednesday next. Woodville is credited with having a very smart team, and given a fine clay, there will no dnubt be a large number of spectators to witness this game.

Improvements are being effected to the New Zealand Loan and Mer cantile Company's office in Main street. The secretary of the PahiatuaAkitio A. and P. Association has secured an office in close vicinity to the Commercial buildings. A good portion of the new school grounds have been ploughed in readiness for tree ' 4 planting on Arbour Day. Metal carts have also been busy at the grounds. The School Committee have all the arrangements well in hand for the opening ceremony in the afternoon, and the social in the evening of the 21st inst. As the funds obtained from the social are to go towards improvements which at present are much needed to the play-grounds, it is to be hoped the committee's efforts will meet-nvith the success they deserve.
