PAHIATUA NEWS.

Thursday. There was a very large attendance at the Hunt Club's run at Hamua.

Woodlands Hunt Club's plain and fancy dresa ball, inaugurated by the Hamua supporters in the Hamua Hall, last evening, was a decided success, somewhere about 130 people attending. The floor had been specially prepared for dancing, and good music was supplied by the Misses Eusseli. Tuckwell and Stewart, and JWr Manson. An excellent supper was provided by the ladies. Mr Rodney (Master) took occasion to thank the ladies of Hamua for the splendid manner in which they had carried out all arrangements. There will be s sarpluf from the ball, which will go to the Club's funds. Visitors were present from Palmerston, Pahiatua, Konini and Hukanui, and those in fancy dress were:—Miss Tuckweli, "Folly"; Miss Kay, "Old English Lady"; Miss Webb, "Nurse"; Miss Maud Webb, "Magpie"; Miss Russell, "Spanish Dancer"; MisaOrr, "Eastern Dancer"; Miss Hercock, "Sailor Lass"; Mrs Popplewell, "Queen of Hearts"; Mr H. Russell, "Huntsman"; Mr Brewster, "Lieut, of Rifles"; B. Walden, "College Boy." Mr H. Russell acted as M.C., and Mr L. Russell capably filled the position of secretary.

Mr W. Tosswill informs me that the rainfall for the month of June was 5& inches. Rain fell on nineteen days, the heaviest fall being for the 24 hours ending 9.30 a.m. on June 26th, when .90 inches of rain was recorded.

For the quarter ending June 30th there was one bankruptcy in this district, making a total of four for Ike six month's of this year, as against threa for the corresponding perjod of 1908. )

"f he assets in the estate of Allan Campbell and Co., drapers, are set sown at £175, and liabilities at£sß6, leaving a surplus of £l9B. The first meeting of creditors will be held at Wellington, to-morrow (Friday).

The sub-committee from' the Racing Club, together with the sub-com-mittee from the Ground Committee of the Pahiatua-Akitio A. and P. Association, intend to visit the Racecourse on Saturday morning next, ■with a view to coming to some amicable arrangement, whereby a portion of the course in the vicinity of the grandstand may be leased for Show purposes.

Messrs Dal*ety and Co.' add fresh lines of wethers and Jambs to their sale on Tuesday next; also two good leading dogs. 1 Mr O'Rorke, registrar, informs me that the vital statistics for the quarter ending June 30th are as follow: —Births, 36; deaths, 6; marriages, 18; as compared with 43 births, 9 deaths and 12 marriages for the corresponding quarter of last year. A very successful social, in aid of the hall funds was held at Ballance last evening. At Dannevirke, yesterday, the Woodville Senior football team defaatedtthe Excelsiors by 5 points to 3, and Aotea scored 11 points against Dannevirke's 10. Woodville are now in the lead for the Championship Shield. The football match between Pahiatua and ' Konini, on the latter's ground, on Saturday next, promises to be a very interesting game. A good game is also expected between the Mangatainoka and Pahiatua Schoolboys for J;he Bush Shield, neither team having yet been beaten.
