SPORTING.

HOCKEY. THE AGE GUP. v. HIGH SCHOOL. A match was played on the Showgrounds, yesterday afternoon, for the Age Cup, between the Masterton High School and Ramblers teams. The game was a very interesting and keenly-contested one, and the result was in doubt right up till the last. A feature of the match was the excellent play of the respective backs, Misses McKenzie and J. Miller for High School, and Misses P, Miller, R. Evans and M. O'Toole for Ramblers doing capital work. Miss McKenzie's play was really brilliant, and she sometimes gained thirty or forty yards for her side by hersplendid hitting. Both teams indulged in some pretty passing rushes, Misses B. Scott, A. O'Leary, E. Dagg, H. Fuller and M. Reid, being piominent among the School players, and Misses K. O'Leary, C. Easthope, E Kyle, N. O'Leary "and E. Reid amongst the Ramblers. Botn teams came near scoring in the first half, good back play saving the situation on each occasion, there being no score when half time sounded. The second half was a most excitiDg one, and play was very fast. Shortly after the spelljstartedga good pissiner rush, in which Misses Easthope, Duggan and Curry participated, put the Shcool on the defence, but good hitting by Miss J. Miller drove them back, and the ball was taken into the Ramblers territory mainly through the efforts of Misses Scott, | A. O'Leary, Dagg, Hunter and Wilton. Ramblers then had a busy time defending, but Miss J. Scott eventually got thejball away wtll up the line. There was some capital forward play on each side, the Ramblers forwards broke away, and as the result of up M iS3 Easthope scored a goal. High School now livened up, and for the rest of the spell had the best of play, but were unable to score, the defence of Ramblers being very good "Time" wa3 sounded with the Ramblers the victors by,one goal to nil. Mr B. Iveson'was'referee.
