DISTRICT NURSING FUND.

SUCCESSFUL SOCIAL AND DANCE. " J The social and dance organised in connction with the St. John Ambu- | lance District Nurse Fund was held , in the Drill Hall last evening, and was a decided success from every ' point of view. Quite 150 couples occupied the floor, and dancing was 1 indulged in till the small hours of the | morning. The duties of M's.C. were capably carried out by Messrs J. W. Cochrane, S. A. Noble-Campbell ' and J. H. Pauling. The popular sec- 1 retary, Mr L. H. Lewis, had all i arrangements well in hand for the function. |The mnsic was supplied by Messrs Inns and Goddard'a orchestra of six performers. An excellent ' supper was provided by the ladies' < committee. Tre presentation of certificates to the members of the Nursing Guild, who were successful it: the recent ' annual examinations for First Aid J and Home Nursing, was made by Mr j A. W. Hogg, M.P., who apologised , for the absence of his Worship the Mayor. Mr Ho .ings had always taken a very active in St. John Ambulance. Mr Hogg referred in eulogistic terms to the work of the local Brigade, making special men- < inn of the laudable endeavour of the branch to obtain the services of a District Nurse, and he was certain that everybody's heart would respond to the appeal. He considered that District Nurses were an education to the community, as they were all extremely fine women. The example of the you*hg ladies comprising the Masterton branch would be felt through- . outjjthe.district, as'they were doing a noble work in qualifying themselves to be of use to the community in cases of sickness or accident. The certificates, which were signed by the President of the Association, Lord Plunket; the lecturer, Dr A. Hosking; the examiner, Dr J. A. Cowie;and the secretary of the centre, Mr J. D. Avery, were then presented as fol lows: — First Aid:—Misses Eliza Beale, Jennie Cole, M. Donovan, Janet Fisher, Gertrude Joy, Mary York, Margaret Minton, G. N. McMaster, Emily von Keisenberg, M. M. Holmes, Elsie E. Holmes. Home Nursing:—Mrs J. Amor, Misses Eva Tankersley, Edith Heyhoe, Gertrude M. Pauling, Sarah Tankersley, Jane Harris, Hester Robins, Catherine Campbell, Gladys Dixon, Bessie S. Joy, Henrietta Parton. At the conclusion of the presentation the orchestra played "For he's a Jolly Good Fellow," and three hearty cheers were given for Mr Hocrg.
