METHODIST CHURCH.

ANNUAL MEETING.. •SUCCESSFUL GATHERING. '■' An attendance of between 300 and •'4OO people were present at the annual meeting of the Methodist Church in the Town Hall last evening. The Rev. C. E. Porter occupied 'the chair in the absence of His Worship the Mayor. The stage of the hall was very sprettily arranged, adding a great deal to the success of the gathering. The seats weie also very comfortably arranged. The annual report, which was published in yesterday's issue of the Wairarapa Age, was read by the Secretary of the Trust, Mr H. Beale, and, on the motion of the Chairman, •was adopted. Ihe balance-sheet (also published) was adopted. The principal speaker of the evening was the Hon. ■ Mr Yung-Liang Hwang, newly-appointed Chinese Consul for New 'Zealand, whose remarks are published elsewhere. A very enjoyable instrumental and -vocal programme was submitted during the evening. Mt S. H. Ralph conducted the choir, and Mr C. Morshed presided at the piano. The programme was as follows:—Chorus, "Gloria"' (Mozart), Choir; solos, Miss Prentice, Mrs A. H. Daniell, MrT. Mannell; quartette, Mrs A. Daniell, Miss Judd, Messrs G, Nevin and S. Ralph; recitations, Miss L. Arnold, "Home Sweet Home/' and "Parson Jim"; Mr Wilson, "The Last Shot, a Tale of the Indian 'Mutiny." At the conclusion of the meeting, Mr C. E. Daniell proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr Hwang and -k Miss L. Arnold. The motion was by Dr. N. Prior, and carflpPried by acclamation. ~.Z? Rev. Porter said they were very ■:&"-- 'sorry that the meeting had clashed the dance in the Dril Hall, in • aid of the Distict Nurse Fund, as this was a very laudable object, but circumstances were such that it was impossible to avoid the clashing of Jtbe two gatherings. The furnishings for the gathering were kindly lent by Messrs Hoar and Permain.
