NEW ZEALAND SCHOOLS.
The Minister for Education, speaking at Addington on Saturday last, quoted the following return of the number of schools in New Zealand, actual number of pupils or students, number of free pupils, in 1908: — Primary (public and native schools): 2,100 schools, 150,200 pupils, all free. Secondary: 29 schools, 4,420 pupils, 3,406 free. Secondary department of District High Schools (65): 2,057 pupils, all free. Continuation Technical (excluding school classes): 1,614 classes, 21,561 pupils, 2,075 free," University, Higher Technical and Training Colleges: 12 schools, 1,800 pupils. Private schools: 308 schools, 17,217 pupils.
