LONDON MARKETS.
HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE.
The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, June 26th: — The mutton market is weak. There is less demand, and the advance has been partially lost. Canterbury is quoted at 2|d per lb. The lamb market looks very weak. There are a number of sellers at 4Jd per lb for Canterbury brands, and 3|d per lb for North Island. The beef market is firm, and there is a better demand. New Zealand hinds are quoted at 4|jd, and fores at 2?d per lb. The butter market is quiet, but holders are firm. Small supplies coming forward keep the market steady. Choicest New Zealand is quoted at 106s per cwt, Australian 100s, Danish Ills, and Siberian 100s. The cheese market is dull, and prices are irregular. New Zealand white is quoted at 60s, and coloured at 61s par cwt. The hemp market is very quiet. There is nothing doing, and no change in prices—viz., New Zealand good fair, on spot, £23 5s per ton; ew Zealand, fair, on spot, £22; fair current Manila, £22 10s; JuneAugust shipments—New Zealand, good, fair, £23 per ton: New Zealand fair, £2l. 15s; fair current Manila, £22; Manila output, 24,000 bales. The hop market is active and advancing, and the stock is being reduced. The crop is very backward English best, 80s; medium, 555; American, 655. The wuol market is quiet, but steady.
