During the voyage of the Van Spilbergen from Singapore, a lady passenger named Mrs Winfield had her throat cut, and was robbed of her belongings by two men who entered her cabin. The wound is not serious. The captain immediately picked out the culprits by marshalling the crew and picking out the man whose heart was beating abnormally. When taxed with the deed the man confessed that he and another member of the crew had committed the crime.
