CRICKET.
The first match between Australia and Yorkshire was played in 1878, and the Australians emerged victorious by six wickets, after an exciting
game. Australia made 118 (Horan and Garrett 25 each) and 28 for four wickets, Yorkshire made only 72 (Boyle 5 for 32, and Spofforth 4 for 30) and 73 (Spofforth 5 for 31, Midwinter 2 for 12, and SBoyle 2 for 15). There were 5,000 spectators present on each of the two days. The Australians lost the return match by nine wickets, and 13,000 spectators were present on the first day, and 8,000 on the second. Australia made 88 (G. H. Bailey 23) and 104 (Bannerman and F. R. Allen 33 each) to Yorkshire's 167 (Bovle 3 for 11) and 26 for one wicket (Boyle 1 for 4).
