(From Oar Resident Reporter). Friday. The fortnightly meeting of Lodge V-.ihiataa was held in the Foresters' Halt last evening, Bro. J. Swiggs presiding. It was decided to procure two beds at the Pahiatua Hosptial ioi the use of members of the Lodge. C: the 28 horses that took "part in th.3 Maiden Jumping Competition at trz Po.'fi-ic-rston North Show, yesterday, the three placed ones were owned sr:d ridden by members of the .Woodbinds Hunt Club. T/iO local jDrill Hall has been prettily decorated for the Bachelor's Ball th"s evenng. The ceiling is festooned with green and white musln, while ground the sides are native shrubs, tree ferns, cabbage trees, etc., these decorations being done under in-.- (guidance of Mr Ulrich. The '.-li-pL'-.- tables present a very appetising appearance. Visitors have already orri'-ed in town fgrom Iviastert'..m, Wellington, Wanganui, Napier, Hastings, Dannevirke and Woodviile, and it is estimated that as h'st'three hundred people will be present. An orchestra from Paimerston North has been enaagtf.! to supply the music. A reminder is given to the Bush representative football team that the drag will leave the Commercial Hotel at 1G a.m. sharp to-morrow Saturday. .At the conclusion of the match with Fukutoi the latter team will entertain the visitors to a dinner. I understand that Mr Meredith, of the North Island Selection Committee, has decided to attend the match. The weather is not too promising this evenij}£, but the Makuri ground is stated to be a fairly <\ry one, and the watsr dees not lay on it. Messrs Allan Csmpbell and Co., drapers, tiled a petition in bankruptcy this afternoon.
;: The varied weather of the past we;k will cause the milk supply at th butter and cheese factories in this district to diminish, and in many cases will help to dry off the cows. Every dairy farmer spoken to, states that tiie past season has been the best ever experienced in the Bush district. Cattle of all descriptions, they state, are in splendid condition, and feed being yet plentiful, hay .?nrl other crops, harvested for winter feed, will not be required for some time to c^ne. Church services in the Konini Church will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday evenings throughout the winter , ir.?tead of 7.30. The iuc?.l School Committee are alreudy mti.'ciuii arrangements for the official opening and social to be held on the il?t inot.
