TENUI.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) TENUI, June 18. . On the 17th at Annedale Mrs Nevins entertained her friends at a "book tea." The weather in the morning was unsettled and several people living_at a distnce were greatly disappointed at not being able to be present. However, the weather cleared off in the afternoon and those who were present thoroughly enjoyed the pleaanst gathering. Mrs Nevms, who is a genial hostess, sooh had the visitors partaking of the warm hospitality of her home. Miss Langdon won the first prize with sixteen correct guesses, and Miss Clemison was second with fourteen. For the most original, Miss Stilbcrn was first, and Mrs Brooks second. Those present were: Mesdamcs Dalziel, "Running Water:" Langdon, "Daphney;" Cameron, "His' Grace;" Sutton, "Not Like Other Girls;" Johnston, "Nineteenth Century;" Maunsell, "The Face in the Brooks, "Nothing But Leaves;" Misses Langdon, "The Light that Failed;" Morrison, "Two Years Ago;" M. Langdon, "The tarringtoris;" Stilborn, "Looking Backward;" Cletnison, "A Mighty Atom;" Messrs Johnston, "Westward Ho;" Dalziel, "Hard Times;" Goode, "Sign of the Cross;" Maunsdl, "Green Flag;" Daniell, "Mighty Atom;" L. Langdon, "Half a Hero;'-' Crameron, "Modern Man;" J. Langdon, "Fallen Leaves;" Brooks, "Won by a Neck."

On the 18th while driving from Annedale to Tenui, Mrs and Mrs. Nevins had a narrow escape from a serious accident through one of the horses kicking at the other one, getting its hind leg entangled. The horses bolted, and after an exciting gallop, Mr Nevins was able to pull up the pair. The pole of the vehicle was broken.
