TURF NOTES,
(By "Zetland").
The Opaki course is still in splendid order, and notwithstanding the rain that fell on Thursday and also on Friday night, goot? work was done on the plough gallop on Saturday morning by a number of horses. The. custodian, Mr H. Welch, has kept the plough well worked up during the season, consequently it is notdetrimentably effected by light rains. The Masterton-owned horses Tumut and Osiris, started to work at Rani Si wick last week. Since their arrival in Australia both horses have been doing well. P. McLaughlin may probably take a trip over to Australia during the next few weeks, taking with him Maiora and Rock Fery. Sandix, who fell on the road some weeks ago, and damaged his knees, started work on the tracks agttin on Saturday. During his enforced spell he put on a lot of condition, consequently may not be ready to di.iplay his best form at the Wellington meeting. W. Uarrett has broken in the Euroclydon—Liniment filly recently purchased at the Wanganui sale of bloodstock. '-H^ZzS
I The horses worked at Opaki"on Saturday morning were: —Rose Her*, aid, Merrie England filly, Pukewhal a Campaign, Seaier, Sunbonnet, First Consul, Aberration, Moloch, Merriwee filly, Skye, Retinue, Matira, San Fran—Zisca filly. A local sportsman has purchased a two-year-old full brother to Leahora. He will be ridden about during the winter, and put into work the Spring.
Kelso is being schooled over hurdles at Tauherenikau, and will probably be among the hurdle horses competing at the Wellington meeting.
