THE VACANCY IN THE CABINET.

It is generally understood that the vacancy in the Cabinet caused by the retirement of Mr Hogg will not be filled during the recess, and some members who take a deep interest in such matter?, are of opinion that even when the Prime Minister returns and engages in the business of next session, he will not make any further appointment. Some surprise has been expressed because the Hon. T. Mackenzie .has not been promoted to full Ministerial rank. This may be done when Sir Joseph Ward returns from London. The Acting-Premier (Hon. J. Carroll) will make his headquarters in Wellington during the recess. The Prime Minister is due back in New Zealand at the end of September.
