Consideration was given by Cabinet on Saturday morning to the requirements of the unemployed. It was announced later that the Labour Department would to-day be prepared to put on some twenty.to forty men on bushfelling on the Rangifatau block, which ia to be set aside for retrenched civil servants, and on railway works in various parts of the Dominion. The general idea is that tlis works thus provided shall bs arranged so that there will be no necessity for sending men from one end of the Dominion to the other. As far as possible, each district will be made to provide work for its unemployed, if they care to go into the country, consideration will, be paid to clearing the Rangitatau block, which is to provide settlement for those civil servants who have severed their connection with the Service, and desire to make a fresh start on the land.
