CARTERTON NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter.) Friday. Mr R. G. Welch, of *Matarawa, has just returned from a brief visit to_ the Pahiatua and Otaki districts. He found the weather in Otaki even milder than that being experienced here. Ir. these places new potatoes have been dug, and sold already. Carterton now possesses three patrols of boy scouts, and a fourth is shortly to be formed. The patrols already in existence are the Kakas, Huias, and Keas. The fourth squad is to*be called the Hares. A proposal has been made that an entertainment should be arranged for the purpose of raising £l4, which amount it is considered would provide the four patrols with the regulation uniforms. ,'Each uniform costs 10s Cd at the Christchurch warehouse. Court Marquis of Normanby, A.0.F., met on Wednesday evening, Bro. A. M. Holms presiding. It was resolved to accept the challenge of Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge to a card tournament on June 24th. It was decided to sanction the action of the Friendly Societies' Council in proposing to expend £2 on a trophy for card tournaments. An invitation was received from the Loyal Unity Lodge of Oddfellows for their annual social at Featherston on June *,24 th. The following nominations for officers were received:—C.R., Bro. A. J. Fisher; S.C.K., Bro. F. Dixon; secretary, Bro. JR. ' J. dhapman; treasurer, Bro. P. Molloy; S. W., Bro. J. Nicholls; J.W., Bro. W. Vickerstaff; 5.8., Bro. J. Fisher; M.S., Bro. C. Moore; auditor, Bro. J. Gorman; surgeon, Dr. D. G. Johttston. One friend was proposed for membership.
