TENUI NOTES.
From Our Gw/i Correspondent. A football match was played at Te Nui on Saturday afternoon, between the local team and Carswells. The Te Nui team again demonstrated their superiority by winning by 17 points to 8 after a fast game. Te Nui winning the toss, Carswells kicked off, and soon it was evident that things were going to be lively, by the way the leather flew up and down the field. Te Nui pack, after a few minutes play, rushed the ball by some beautiful passing work right down on to their opponents' line, where, from a forward rush, McGillicuddy got over, but theory was disallowed, and a scrum was ordered five yards out, with the result that W. Collerton scored, after a fine piece of work. Shortly afterwards this name player scored again in brilliant style, and the first spell ended with Te Nui leading by 6 points to nil. Upon resuming, Te Nui forwards again got to work, and carried the ball right down the field, where W. Collerton registered his third try, Arthur Schofield kicking a beautiful goal from an awkward angle. Carswells now livened up, and started dribbling tactics, which ended in Gordo Lang scoring after a nice piece of footworn, Wilson adding the major points. Again Carswells attacked, but Te Nui was not to be denied, and J. Wingate on the wing took a hand m mattei*s, and aided by his superior pace, carried the ball through the opposing backs and scored. Then Carswells penned Te Nui on their line for some considerable time. They got a free kick for obstruction, and Wilson sent the ball between the posts. Play now became fast and furious, and there Was only seven minutes to go to time. J. Wingate shone out with some beautiful work, and again scored near the corner flag, no goal resulting. Shortly afterwards time was souDded, with play right on Carswells line. For Te Nui. W. Collerton as forward, and Wingate, on the wing, excelled, and W. Collerton wa3 by far the best forward on the ground. The backs played well, at half, doing solid work for his side, as also did Page Sharp, Possum, Jim Collerton, E Collerton, and B. Schofield. For Carswells, Hyde, Wilson, Lang and Millar, and Greenbank, Bros., did excellent work. Carswells were afterwards entertained by Te Nui at dinner. Mr Chas. .Richardson refereed in his usual efficient style. There was quite a chapter of accidents, Wilson, of Carswells, had to retire for a few minutes through being stunned, and Len Greenbank had his nose broken,, while Sid Schofield, of Te Nu;, sutained a badly cut upper lip. Mick Sharpe had his right eye badly cut. Te Nui will meet Homewood at Langdale on the 26th inst.
