OFF TO ENGLAND.
PREMIER LEAVES WELLINGTON. HOSTILE DEMONSTRATION. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 18. The Prime Minister, accompanied by Lady Ward and Miss Ward, left by the Manuka, this evening, for Sydney en route for London, where Sir Joseph Ward is to attend the Imperial Defence Conference. There was a great crowd to see them off, variously estimated at from 1,500 to 2,500. A little hostile demonstration took place, but really nothing to speak of, and it may safely be said that the Prime Minister was accorded a really hearty send-off.
As the Manuka moved off from the wharf guns were fired from H.M.S. Pioneer, and rockets from the Government steamer Tutanekai.
