RETRENCHMENT.
CANADIAN PUBLIC WORKS POSTPONED. Received June 18, 8.35 a.m. LONDON, June 17. Sir Wilfrid Laurier, Premier of Canada, has informed Sir R. W. Perkes's English syndicate that impossible to proceed with the Georgian Bay Canal scheme, owing to the need for retrenchment, and the determination of the Government to complete the Grand Trunk Pacific railway be for entering upon other enterprises.
