MASTERTON CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

r "*''MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL.

Donald, J. B. Moodie, M. Caselberg. Several apologies for absence were received. The Treasurer reported a credit balance of £4 5s 9d. The Secretary of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce wrote to state at the Sydney Conference of Chambers that Masterton was not among the list of New Zealand Chambers invited to send a delegate. The letter stated that the matter would be looked into, and that the London Chamber had control of the question.

It was decided to ask the Wellington Chamber to either appoint Mr Donald Donald as one of its representatives, or as a Dominion representative.

Mr. J. Kent-Johnston, Secretary of the Featherston Chamber of Commerce, wrote to state that his Chamber had decided to ask the Cour.ty Council to improve the road to Palliser Bay in view of that locality becoming a popular health resort. It was considered, however, that a motor boat service on the Wairarapa Lake was rather immature. The Masterton Chamber's offer to he ] p was received with thanks. Mr W. P. Wynn-Williams wrote to state that he was about to make an extended tour of the South Sea Islands, and therefore asked for leave of absence for about two months.—Leave of absence was duly granted, wishes being expressed that Mr Wynn-Williams- should return invigorated in health. On the motion of Mr Donald it was decided to appoint Messrs Daniel), Hoodie, the Chairman and the mover, a committee to watch the progress of events between the Borough and County Councils regarding the improvement of the Northern approach to Masterton. Mr Daniell said in reference to this question, that so great was the importance of the matter that matters should not be fallowed to drift. The Chamber, as representing the commerce of the district, should raise a very effective voice, and as two engineers had reported differently as to the best course of improvement, it might be advisable to havts the opinion of a third engineer. Mr Donald stated, in a discussion as to the best way to improve the approach, that a suggestion by Mr Daniell, to concentrate the river into one channel that been previously approved by Mr G. Laing- Meason.

It was resolved that the committee work in the direction of furthering the method suggested by Mr LaingMeason, and that the two Councils interestedjibc urged to consider the suggestions of Mr Laing-Meason on the matter, and to take into consideration the question of improving the stock route across the rivere.
