PAHIATUA NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter). Thursday. The Ballance Dairy Company paid out £2,200 yesterday tor milk supplied to its various creameries dur- | ing the month of May. This amount is considered very good for so late in the season, and speaks well for the district as tar as dairying is concerned. A fair amount of butter is stii; being manufactured at the two buitar factories. The suppliers of the Mac Lean Si roe I; creamery in Wocdville, be'cngir.g to the Dairy Union, held a second meeting to further deal with the question of butter versus -jheese. After the subject had been fully discussed, a vote resulted in favour of butter by a substantial majority. The social in the Konini Hall last evening, in aid of the Hall funds, was a very enjoyable function. All the -nimgements for the social were v '.rr.sfully carried out by the ladies ?i ;v»nini, and they are to ha con-gr.-.iiLaled on their efforts. A splendid s'j-: jsr was provided, and good music f ■.■ was supplied by Mr L. 0, den, Mrs Britland, Mrs \\. Smith, aik the Misses Bis?ett (2), and Stewart playing extras. During the evening songs were rendere;; >i\ :Miss !'• Bissattand Messrs Ozd.».\ G. Smith, and the latter gentleman made an efficient M,C. Miss G. M. Noedl, daughter of Mr R. C. Noedl, was married at Wcodville on Tuesday last, to Mr W. Cheeseman, of Dunedin. Mr Gherteris and his son, the gifted "Boy Preacher," have had good audiences at the Methodist Church each evening this week. Last evening Mr Charceris journeyed to Ballacce, and delivered a lecture on tho "Humour and Pathos of Life in Glasgow," and to-mor-row (Friday) evening Mr Charteris will deliver a similar lecture In the P-hintua Methodist Church. Although not quite complete traffic was allowed to go over McParlane's bridge for the first time since the washout occurred this morning. The County Engineer informs me that the four bridges at Ballance will be started about the Ist of July, the unavoidable delay being caused by the mishap to the above mentioned bridge and the Marima bridge. It is intended to push on the work of the Ballance bridges as expediently as possible. The grader was at work to-day in several of the side streets of the Borough. The Ground Committee oi the Pahiatua-Akitio A. and P. Association will meet on Tuesday next to consider the oilers of sites received

for a Showground. The Woodville Presbyterian Church Committee are about to erect a new Church. In connection with tha Dannevirfce Sub-union matches a good game of football was witnessed on the Woodville ground, yesterday, between Fannevirke and Woodville, the latter winning by 12 to 3. Woodville Thirds beat Dannevirke Cadets by 7 to 6, and the Senior match at Dannevirke between Excelsiors and Aotea resulted in a win for the former by 6 to nil. The Pahiatua team play Mangatainoka on the latter's gronud on Saturday next. The following will represent Pahiatua:—Yule (2), Foss (2), Hail (2), Fairbrother, Weatherly, Jacques, Collins, Cavanagh, Zillwood, Eccleton and Short. Emergencies—Farrell, Jolly, Smith.
