CARTERTON NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter.) Wednesday. A meeting of the United Friendly Societies' Council was held last evening, Bro P. Molloy presiding. The deputation that interviewed the South Wairarapa Hospital Trustees on the proposal to secure a bed in the institution for the benefit of Friendly Society members, reported that the trustees had deferred consideration of the matter until their next meeting. A vote of thanks was accorded to the members of the deputation. It was decided to ask the various societies to sanction the expenditure of £?, on a trophy for" card tournaments, and to suggest that the so-, cieties should contribute a further amount.. A credit balance of £7 18s was reported. This mornirg Mr C. R. P. Armstrong sent a beautiful pen of Buff Orpingtons to the Wellington Poultry Show Mr Armstrong's birds should stand a good chance in the utility class at the South Wairarapa show, to be held here at the end of the month. There is general comment here at the mild winter so far experienced. "If we don't soon get some winter we will have no fruit," was the remark of a local resident to your reporter this morning.
