THE COMMONWEALTH'S DREADNOUGHT.
Received June 16, 10.10 p.m. LONDON, June 16
In the House of Commons, Mr Asquitb, Prime Minister, in reply to Mr Keir Hardie as to the form in which the Commonwealth's generous offer of a Dreadnought would be finally accepted, said that this would depend on the friendly discussion at the forthcoming Defence Conference. Mr Hardie then asked whether, considering that the Australian Labour Party were still opposed to the offer, and public opinion was much divided, the Imperial Government would delav the final acceptance until after the General Eleclian.
Mr Asquith replied:—"No, sir! The communication came to us from the Government of the Commonwealth, and-we are concerned with them, and them alone."
