{From Our Resident Reporter). * Tuesday. The Mangatainoka football club are to be congratulated on the splendid manner in which they had their football ground marked out on Saturday last. Other clubs belonging to the Bush Union would do_well to note this improvement, as it is awkward for visiting players to play on unmarked grounds. A social that is being arranged by the ladies of Konini, will take place In the Konini Hall on Wednesday evening. Mr Charteris, the Scotch preacher, will deliver a lecture in the Ballance Hall, one evening this week. The County enginepr has informed me that the repairs to McFarlane 's bridge at Konini, the northern end of which sank eight feet in a recent flood, were just about completed, than that the bridge would be open for traffic in a few days Mr Eccleton, of Pahiatja, is amongst those taking part in the Woodville Catholic Social, which is being held this evening. There was a good attendance at the opening of Messrs G. Watson and Co.'s skating rink in the Drill Hall last evening. The Pahiatua Brass Band, under Bandmaster Trezise, rendered several selections during the evening. The want of a lamp somewhere in the vicinity of the Methodist Church was keenly felt on Sunday evening. I understand that the Borough Council intend to deal with this matter at their next'meeting. Quite a number of local "sports" left by to-day's express for Hastings to attend the Hawke's Bay races. Amongst the horses engaged at the meeting is a locally owned one, and a well-known local gentleman rider has also been engaged to ride in the Ladies' Bracelet. The Woodville bakers have reduced the price of bread to 7d cash for the 41b loaf. The nomination of officers for the ensuing six months will take place at the meeting of Court Pahiatua, A.0.F., this evening. Messrs Corrigan and J. C. Cooper, who have been on a visit to the backblocks in the interests of the Farmers' Freezing Company, returned this afternoon. They report having had splendid meetings at Weber and afterwards drovp as far as visiting the farmers en route. The feelings of the settlers, they state, a?e decidedly in favour of the Company. They were also requested to return at an early date and address a meeting at Mangahe, which, if possible, they intend to do in about a fortnight's time. A run'of the Woodlands Hunt Club will be held at Mr C. Avery's tomorrow afternoon. The Committee set up by the Pahiatua-Akitio A. and P. Association to deal with the applications -for the secretaryship of the Society, met in Mr W. I. Husband's office, this afternoon. It was decided to go into committee before opening the applications. After the meeting the President informed me that there were three applications tor the position, and Mr J. A. Walsh, who has acted as pro tern secretary since the first meeting to form the Society, was appointed. STOCK MARKET. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report on their sale in the P.F.A. yards as follows:—Owing to the boisterous morning we only had a medium yarding of sheep and cattle, and a limited attendance of buyers. Prices were on a par with previous sales as under:—Empty ewes, 7s; lambs, 7s 9d; cull lambs, 3s 9d; aged ewes in lamb, 6s 9d; rams, 7s 6d to 8s 6d. Cattle: Spring calvers, 545; speyed cows, 40s; weaner heifers, 21s, heifers in aalf, 755; bull, 57s 6d.
Messrs Abraham and Williams, Ltd., report on their P.F.A. sale on Tuesday as follows:—Owing to the exceptionally wet weather stock did net come forward up to advertised numbers. There was a fair enquiry for sheep, and all cattle yarded sold at good values. We quote:—2-tooth wethers, 10s lid; small wethers, 9s 3d; f.m. ewes in lamb, 9s lOd; dry ewes, 7s 3d; lambs, 6s 7d; fat bullocks, £6 6s; forward bullocks, £5 ss; fat cows, £4 7s 6d to £3 7s for light beef; forward cows, £2 10s to £2 19s 6d; store cows, 28s to 40s; backward heifers in calf, £2 9s to £3 12s; empty heifers, £2 to £2 3s.
