CARTERTON NEWS.

(From Our Resident Reporter.) Saturday. News reached here to-day that McKinnon, the jockey, who was injured through Irish falling with him in the Winter Steeplechase at Auckland, had succumbed from his injuries. The unfortunate young fellow is a brother of Mr H. McKinnon, of this town, who upon receipt of the sad news caught the express en route to Auckl nd. His parents were at one time residents of Carterton.

Amongst the business to come before the meeting ,of dairy factory delegates here next Saturday will be the consideration of the question that the rules governing the butter-fat competition of the Wairarapa P. and A. Society be amended, so that the competition be open to anyone milking five cows. This will throw the competition open to all instead of restricting it to bona fide dairy factory suppliers. The conference will also consider the businsss to come before the National Association.

Mr C. Campbell, the well-known sheepbrceder, of Clareville, was the victim of a painful accident the other afternoon. He was drafting sheep, and on one of them breaking back, Mr Campbell turned swiftly to check it, and in doing so severly sprained his ankle.

The Tennis Club at Clareville held a very successful dance last evening. The attendance was good, and an excellent floor made dancing a pleasure. The music "was provided by Mrs H. Welch (violin) and Mr Petersen (piano). Messrs W- and A/ J. Fisher were M's.C.
