! VIOLENT SHOCKS IN FRANCE. GREAT EXCITEMENT. HOUSES oOLLAPSE. A FEW FATALITIES. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph Copyright. Received June 13, 5.20 p.m. PARIS, June 12. There were two violent earthquake shocks yesterday throughout Riviera and Marseilles. There was great excitement in the streets and cafes. Six towns in Bouehes-du-Rhorse (a department in the South-East of France), were plunged in darkness owing to the failure of the electric light, the entire population of the towns remaining outdoors till dawn. Houses collapsed in several towns. There were a few fatalities. The ships in Toulon Harbour strained their cables. SIXTY DEATHS. Received June 14, 12.25 a.m. LONDON, June 13. The earthquake caused at least 60 deaths in the south of France. EARTHQUAKE TREMORS REPORTED. SYDNEY, June 12. Seismographs at Sydney and Melbourne recorded distinct earth tremors on Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday last. It is thought probable they are connected with the recent earthquake at Sumatra.
