A POPULAR MAGISTRATE.

BAR'S WELCOME BACK TO MR W. P. JAMES. The popularity of Mr W. P. James, Stipendiary Magistrate at Masterton, was evidenced yesterday, when a tull gathering of the legal profession of Masterton, and representatives from Carterton welcomed his Worship back from his extended holiday in Australia. Mr A. R. Bnnny,' as spokesman for the profession, being senior solicitor present, expressed in a few well chosen words how pleased the members of the Bar were to see his Worship back again on tha Bench, and they all trusted that his holiday had proved beneficial. It was the Bar's unanimous wish that his Worship would long be spared to occupy his present position. Mr James feelingly replied, and emphasised how gratified he was to find that he was so appreciated as he apparently was. His Worship made particular reference to the cordial relations which had always been maintained between the Bar and himself, and said he felt sure such a pleasant position would continue. His Worship mentioned that in some 42 years' service, the leave he had just completed was the first extended holiday he had enjoyed, and he was pleased to state that it had been most enjoyable and recuperative.
