TENUI NOTES.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) Tuesday. An exciting runaway happened here on the sth fortunately without any serious results. Mr C. Laing was driving Mrs J. H. Cameron and her two children when the reins came unbuckled. The horse 3 immediately took flight and galloped off at a great pace. Mr Laing while attempting to recover the reins fell out of the buggie. Mrs Cameron very bravely put her toot on the brake and was steading the pair somewhat when Mr D. Stephen galloped to her rescue and being a capable horseman picked up the reins and handed them to Mrs Cameron just in time to avert an accident as the runaway pair were fast approaching a bridge in a bend on the road. A match was played at Whakataki on Saturday afternoon last between Mataikor.a and Tenui teams and resulted in another win for Tenui after another brilliant game by 6 points to 3~a try scored by Sid Schofield and a goal kicked from a mark by W. Collerton to a penalty goal by W. Mason. Tenui again excelled in the scrums enabling their backs to get in some beautiful passing rushes. Bruce Harvey at five-eighths and W. Mason at full back played spleodidlv and were warmly applauded by the onlookers for their tricky work. The Mataikona team entertained the Tenui team at dinner at the Marine Hotel Whakataki after the match on Saturday. Mr E. Collerton was referee in Mr Barton's absence, and gave ever satisfaction. The Tenui team will meet Carswells at Tenui on Saturday next. All players are requested to be ready to take the field punctually at three o'clock.
Mataikona meets Homewood at Tenui on the 19th instant.
