PAHIATUA NEWS.

(From Oar Resident Reporter). Wednesday. WEDDING AT MANGATAINOKA. The residence of 'Mr H. Cowan, the popular manager of the North Island Brewery Company, was the scene of a very pretty wedding today, when Miss Kezia Oily Cowan was married *n Mr Edgar Leopold Harvey. The bride, who was given away by her father, was exquisitely dressed in pale blue crepe de chene, and Miss May as bridesmaid was attired in heliotrope, and cream muslin with hat to mach. Mr B. Smith acted as best man. The mother of the bride was dressed in black and white silk with guipure trimming, Mrs McSkimming (sister) in silica crepeline, Mrs Farqhaur (blue silk), Mrs Newton (grey costume), Mrs May (navy costume). A large number of friends sat down to a sumptuous wedding breakfast. The health of the bride and bridegroom was drunk'enthusiastically, as was also that of Mr and Mrs Cowan. The bridegroom presented the bride with a lovely diamond and opal ring and the bridesmaid with a greenstone and pearl gold biooch. Mr and Mrs Harvey were the rpi.-if.-ieoc.s ut n large nunfber of brimful presents, amongst them being . a handsome silver teapot from the Mangatainoka Football Club, of which Mr Harvey was a prominent member. Mr and Mrs Harvey, carrying with them the good winhes of a large circle of friends, were driven to Woodville in a motor car, and caught the train for the South, where the honeymoon is to be spent. The bride's travelling dres3 was made of brown Amazon cloth, with guipure drop trimmings, and she wore a brown hat to match. Their future home is to be at Mangatainoka. GENERAL. In connection with the Puketoi Rugby Union's Banner matches, Eakanui had an easy win over Makuri on Saturday last by 33 points to 5. Makuri were -unable to put a full team in the field. Valentine scored a try, and kicked a goal for Makuri. For the winners Larsen (3), Barabry (2), G. West, F. West, Bellshaw and Wallace scored tries.

Great interest is centred in the Pongaroa-Rakanui match, which will take place on Saturday next. Both teams are level as regards Banner points, and the coming match will decide the Puketoi championship. The Pahiatua Hospital Trustees held their monthly meeting la3t evening. There were present —Messrs J. D. Wilson (Chairman) S. Bolton, H. Eames, G. Burgess, W. Tylte, E. B. Hare, K. J. McLennan and G, H. Drew (secretary). Dr. Dawson was also in attendance. An apology for absence was received from Mr Godfrey Taylor. The following tenders were accepted for the ensuing year: —Groceries, L. T. Herbert and Co.; drugs, Mr E. Ross; bread, Mr *. W. Brewer; meat, Mr W. W. McCardle; funerals, Mr W. Proctor. The doctors' report showed that there were six males and one female in the institution a the present time, and that no comlpamts were made during the month. Accounts for the month of May, amounting to £BB 6s, were passed for payment. The notice of motion to rescind the hour of the meeting was"earried, and it was decided in the future to hold the meetings on the second Thursday in each month at 4 p.m. Mr Bolton asked that the secretary prepare an approximate cost per head of patients Masterton and South Wairarapa Hospitals. He represented the Pahiatua County Council, and their levy this year was over £2OO more than last year, and councillors and ratepayers wanted to know the reason. He would like it made public as soon as possible. A pleasing ceremony was performed at the Commercial Hotel last evening, when Mr C. Evans, who for some time has been associated with the firm of Hare and Evans, and is rejoining the firm of Dalgety and Co., was presented with a purse of 'sovereigns as a mark of the esteem in which he was held by his friends. Over forty people were present, and in making the presentation Mr Rodney, in a brief speech, remarked on the fair and, impartial manner in which Mr Evans had always acted. Messrs Eames, Boyd, McFarlane, and McLennan also spoke in eulogistic terms of the guest of the evening, and Mr Evans responded in a neat and Wittyi

speech. During the evening Mr Petherjck gave a recitation. A game of football was played on the Recreation Ground this afternoon, between the Druids and Oddfellows, and after a good game was won by the former by 16 points to 15. The Druids' score was made up of 4 tries, two being converted, and the Foresters' by three converted tries. At a meeting of the PahiatuaAkitio A. and P. Association, held last evening, various committees were [appointed. No applications were received for the secretaryship, and it was decided to call for fresh applications at a salary of £SO per year, and a commission of 5 per cent, on all donations to the prize fund, and on subscriptions over a certain sum. The fallowing team will represent Mangatainoka against Nireaha on the Domain ground on Saturday next:— Dungar, (2), Cade, Connor, Cowan, Palmer, Mexted, Lyle, Pilkington, Tylor, Cresswell, Harvey (2), Murphy, Vowell; emergencies, De Malmancho, Sharp. Before the above match starts the Mangatainoka juniors will play the Eketahuna juniors on the same ground. The Konini Ladies' Hockey Club intend to hold a social at an early date. The Mangaramgrama cheese factory will close down for the season at the end of his week. The company hava had a splendid year, and the cheese has been bringing top prices at Home. The coming season will see several new cheese factories erected in'various parts of the Bush District. The factory at Woodville is just about completed.
