CARTERTON NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter.) Tuesday. In the Police Court this morning, before Messrs J. Baillie and W. F. Roydhouse, J's.P., a middle aged man named William Howson was sentenced to three months' imprison- 1 ment on each of three charges of obtaining goods and money under false pretences, the sentences to be concurrent. Accused travelledground the district stating that he was in business in a large way, and on that assumption he was given deposits on goods, which never arrived. On Thursday a "gift afternoon" under the aupsices of the Presbyterian Young Women's Bible Class is to be held in the Fire Brigade Hall. Mr H. Wright, of the clerical staff of the local railway station, resumed duty this morning after his annual holiday. I understand that the old premises in High Street, formerly occupied by the Fanners' Union Co-operative Store, ; Jiave been secured as a depot for the Eagle Brewery after NoLicense takes effect in Masterton.
