PAHIATUA NEWS.

(From Oar Resident Reporter). Tuesday. FARMERS' FREEZING COMPANY. A meeting of the directors of the Farmers' Freezing Company was held in the Commercial Hotel to-day, Mr J. C. Cooper presiding. The meeting lasted from 11 o'clock till 6.30 o'clock, nearly all the directors beii>g present. The business was to register the Company, make arrangements for issuing shares, and ths geueral management of the business, Mr G. Harold Smith, the Company's solicitor, attended the meeting and explained the articles of the association fully. The prospectus and articles of the association were adopted. Another meeting of directors will be held at Pahiatua on Tuesday next. Small farmers are very enthusiastic over the. Company all over [-this district. Messrs J. C. Cooper and M. J. Corrigan will start for Weber and Wimbledon to-morrow to address meetings on the project. PAHIATUA BOROUGH COUNCIL. The monthly meeting of the Pahiatua Borough Council was htld last eveninr. There were present Mr D. Crewe (Mayor) and Crs Boyd, Hare. Hewat, Drew. McCardle, Davidson, Norrell, Sturton and Westlake. The Wairarapa District Hospital Board wrote advising the Council that their share of contributions amounted to £52 14s 4d for the ensuing year. Mr C. J. Norton, Postmaster, wrote stating that the Department would defray the cost of repairing footpaths damaged by the telegraph lineman when in the execution of their duty. Mr J. J. Boagey applied to the Council tu erect a lamp at the corner of Princes and Sedc.ile street, opposite the Wesleyan Church. This matter was hold over until next meeting. The Finance Committee recommended that the following rates be struck:—-General, 2d in the £; specials. 2jr<l in the £. The Health Inspector reported a case of scarlet fever in the town, the first for about nine months. The Borough overseer reported that the sewerage and water works were in guod order, and the nuisance Inspector stated that the sanitary condition of the Borough was good. Cr Hare moved in the direction of the Borough purchasing the gasworks. The motion was lost by 6 votes to 4. GENERAL. Last evening 26* members of LcJge Pahiatua, U.A.0.D., journeyed to Eketahura to visit Mrytle Lodge. After the installation of officers by Bro. Nicholls„P.A., of Totara Lodge, Carterton, the' members of both Lodges adjourned to the Town Hall, where refreshments were supplied by by the Eketahuna Brethren. Various toasts were honoured. Songs and recitations were given during the evening by Bros. Parker, Hebsrley, Finch, Ackerman, Jacques, Wilton and Hepburn. Mr Peter Tulloch, land agent, reports the sale of Mr J. Astwocd's butchering business at Hukanui to Mr F. H. Vincent, of Christchurch. The new proprietor will take possession on Monday next. At the local Court, this morning, before Messrs J. D. Wilson and W. W, McCardle, J.P.'s, judgment by default was given in the following civil cases:—North Island Brewery Co. v. T. Morgan, claim £3 10s, costs 12s; C. Matthews v. W. Milligan, claim 14s, costs ss; and New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., v. W. Dick, claim £4 3s 6d, costs 18s. 1 I understand that Mr O'Roake, Clerk of the Court, is to be appointed Clerk to the Licensing Committee, in place of Mr Brosnahan, of Woodviile, who is retiring from the Police Force, and that in future the Licensing Committee will meet alternately at Pathiatua and Woodville. . The ceremony of opening the Lower Gorge bridge will take place to-morrow (Wednesday), At the meeting of the Bush Dis tricts A. and P. Association held in Woodville on Friday evening, the following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr H. Gaisford; Vice-Presidents, Messrs W. S. Bolton, W. H. Gaisford and R. E. Mr Brosnahan, who for several years past has been in charge of the Woodville Police Station, and who is now going to settle on his farm at Konini, is to be tendered a farewell social by the residents of Woodville at an early date. STOCK MARKET. Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., re- ; portion their Pahiatua sale to-day as follows-.—Stock eaine forward in access of advertised numbers, and j practically every entry was sold at auction. Prices were about on a par with former sales, and we quote:— Sheep: Mixed lambs, 6s 5d to 8s 4d; 2 and 4-tooth wethers, 10s 6d to lis; sound-mouth ewes in lamb, 9s 6d, 10s 2d, 10s lOd, lis 6d, and a special good line brought 13s 3d. Cattle: 20-month steers, £3; 2-year steers, £3 6s to £3 lis; 15-month steers (good colours), to £2 8s; weaner steers, 365; weaner heifers, 18s; empty cows, £2 18s to £3 6s; springing cows, £2 10s to £3 6s; fat and forward cows, £3 6s to £3 18s. Messrs Abraham and Williams report on their Pahiatua sale as follows: We only had a fair yarding of sheep and e small yarding of cattle submitted to a good attendance of buyers. Prices for all classes of stock were quite up to late rates. We quote:—Soundmouth ewes in lamb, lis 3d to Is 6d; full mouth ewes in lamb, 9s; 12tooth wethers (small), 9s 3d to 9s 6d; store ewes, 6s lOd; shorn lambs, 6s 6d to 8s 3d; wether lambs, 8s 8d; light fat heifers, £3 ss; cows in calf, 37s to £3; store cows, 26s to £2 ss; heifers in calf, £3; weaners, 12s.
