FOOTBALL.

NORTHERN UNION RULES. NEW ZEALAND LEAGUE TEAM DEFEATED. Received June 6, 5.5 p.m. SYDNEY, Jnne 6. The weather was fine for the match yesterday between the New Zealand and New South Wales professional teams, and there was an attendance of 18,000. The game was fast and vigorous throughout. The New Zeaianders were apparently not in the best of form after the voyage, and did not get fairly going till well into the second half. They promise when they have played together a little more to give a much better account of themselves. New South Wales were faster, and Bhov»ed better combination, and were* superior in the open work. The visitors were betttr in the ruck. The first half ended—New South Wales, 15 points; New Zealand, 3, J. Spencer securing an unconverted try.

In the second half the New Zeaianders put in some splendid work, and at one time had 16 points to their credit • against New South Waies 15. Tries were obtained by Barber (2), Lile and Rowe, Houghton converting three. The final score was—New South Wales, 26; TSlew Zealand, 21. Tries were scored for New South Wales by Rosenfeldt (4) (two being converted), Frawley and Colin one each. The former converted Colin's try, and also kicked a penalty goal. ,

The Senior fixtures for next Saturday in connection with the Wairarapa Rugby Unior are as follow: — Red Star v. Greytown, at Greytown, i

Carterton v. Lower Valley, at Martinbcrough.

E. Fisher, clever five-eighth of the Masterton Third-class team, put up, on Saturday last, what is probably a Wairarapa record, by scuring seven tries against Hikurangi at Clareville. In a championship match against 'le Ore Ore earlier in the season Fisher scored six tries, and he has been a most consistent scorer this seasoon in all matches for his club.
