A sensation has been caused by the High Court at Calcutta acquitting three Indians who were sentenced to terms of imprisonment in connection with the Midnapore conspiracy on February 3rd last. During the original trial the leading witness for the prosecution withdrew his depositions, and the charge against twenty-three Indians was dropped, but three, others were convinced,, Th'e High Court judgment censures the police methods in this case,and a rigid inquiry has been opened.
