UNIVERSAL MILITARY TRAINING.
MEETING OF WOMEN AT WELLINGTON. By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, June 2. A largely attended meeting of women was held in the Town Hall, this afternoon, to discuss proposals in regard to universal military training. The Mayoress (Mrs A. K. Newman) presided, and the speakers ineluded four women. The following motion was unanimously carried:—"That this meeting considers that notwithstanding the enthusiasm of the volunteers the volunteer system does not provide adequate means of defence; therefore this meeting asks the Government to introduce a system of universal military training for young men." A committee ot women was set up to co-operate with the men's committee on the matter.
