HIGH COMMISSIONER'S REPORT. The Department of Industries and Commerce has reieived the following cable from the High Commissioner, dated London, May 29th, 1909: The mutton market is very dull. There has not been the slightest improvement, and trade is very disappointing, there be.ing_'only a very hand, to-mouth demand. Stocks on hand ai'e hGavy; Sri are widely distributed amongst agents, ffl:o are pushing sales. Canterbury , brands range, according to quality, from 3£d to 2id, and North Island from 2fd to 13d." Thera is a good demand for prirnC quality lame, but a slight, fall in prices all round. Canterbury brands range, according to quality, from 4gd to 4rt; other than Canterbury, 4Jd to Sl<3 per ib; The beef market i> steady, and there is a good demand tor all dg* sorptions . New Zsaland hinds are quoted at s§u per lb, and fores at 2£d per lb. : The butter market its duil, but the weather is more favourable. There is* less demand. , Choicest New Zealand- is quoted at 104s per cwt, Danish 112s,- Siberian 110s. The cheese market is quiet, but firm. Canadian supplies are increasing. New Zealand whits is quoted at 65?, coloured 67s per cwt. r lhe hemp market is qu?et,"and small business doing. Holders are rfim. New Zealand good fair; on spot, £23; New Zealand fair grade, on spot, £2l 10s per ton. Fair current Manila, on spot, £23 per ton. May-June shipments—New Zealand good fair grade, per ton, £22 15s; New Zealand fair grade,- per ton, £2l 10s; fair current Manila,- £22 10s. Manila output, 25,000 bales.The cooksfoot'seed market! is dull, and buyers are not keen to do 1 business. Quotations are nominal. Average price bright clean New Zealand cocksfoot seed, 171b per bushel, on spot, per cwt, about 565. The wheat market is slightly weaker, with less demand, but no change in prices. New Zealand long-berried wheat, on spot, ex granary, per quarter of 4961b5, 46s Gd; New Zealand short-berried wheat, on spot, ex granary, per quarter of 4961b5, 455. 6d. The oats market is steady, with a very good demand. The wool market remains firm.
