FOOTBALL.
In the course of the Gladstone - Carterton Senior match, at Gladstone, on Saturday last, Mr 'A. B. Charters, the referee, orderd one of the Carterton forwards off „the field for tripping. Just previous to this incident Mr Charters called the teams together and warned them that the next player he had occasion to speak to would be put off the field. Mr Charers controlled the game in a firm and impoartial manner, and is to be congratulated on the way in which he had the players in hand in such a keen contest. If every referee in the Wairarapa showed the same firmness as Mr Charters does many a game would be much pleasanter to watch. The Wairarapa Rugby Onion's Senior fixtures for Saturday are as follow:—Red Star v. Gladstone, at Masterton; Greytown v. Lower Valley, at Greytown. NEW ZEALANDEBS ARRIVE IN SYDNEY. Telegraph—Press Association. Received June 1, 9.20 p.m. SYDNEY, June 1. The professional "All Blacks'" arrived to-day, and were publicly welcomed in the Town Hall this afternoon, Mr E. W. O'Sullivan, President of the Rugby League, presiding over a large gathering.
