The match of the Australian cricketers against Leicestershire began to-day at Leicester, in the presence of seven thousand spectators. The weather was unsettled, but the wicket was good. Hazelrigg won the toss, and the county eleven went first to the wickets, Knighn and Wood opening. Wood made a single, and was then bowled by Whitty. One wicket for 11. Knight gave a chance at the wickets off Cotter when he had'made 18, and King gave a chance to Hartigan in the slips off Whitty '\vhen*his score was only 7. Both batsmen played sound, steady cricket, with good off-driving and cutting. The first century was reached in 90 minutes. Shortly after luncheon, the partnership between the batsmen was dissolved, Cotter breaking King's stump, and the second wicket falling for 136. King's score included ten fourera. The fourth wicket fell at 160.

Crawiord joined Knight. The latter,, who played brilliantly on the off side, was eventually caugnt by Career. He batted 170 minute?, and made ten fourers. Five for 186.

Crawford scored smartly, 52 runs going up in 50 minutes, and his total of 74 occupied 75 minutes, and included fourteen fourers. tie was brilliantly caught at mid off. Nine wickets for 264.
