'Dr "Valintine, Inspector-General of Hospitals, has been aDpointed Chief Health Officer in place of Dr,. Mason. m Mr G. Cullen, of the literary staff of the Wairarapa Age, received word last evening that he passed the special May examination for the final law professional subjects. Mr Cullen was recorded a very satisfactory average of marks over all his subjects. Mr Henry Thomas Hawker, an old colonist, died in Wellington on Monday evening. Mr Hawker arrived in Marlborough in 1876, and through his business relations is well-known in Napier, Greytown, and throughout Marlborough. The deceased leaves a wife, three sons, and a daughter to mourn their loss. A quiet weddiug was celebrated in Masterton, yesterday morning, when Mr Angus McLeod, of Tenui, was marrid to Miss May Wallis, of Masterton. Mr Malcolm Campbell acted .-as beat man. The ceremony was performed by Rev. A. T. Thompson, 8.A., 8.D., at the residence of Mr 'Wright in Villa street. Mr G. McKenzie. son of Mr B. "McKenzie, of Fernridge, met with an accident on Monday afternoon last. It appears that Mr McKenzie was riding along Queen street, and when opposite Mr E. Welch's shop the horse shied, and, slipping, fell heavily on one of Mr McKenzie's legs. Mr McKenzie, who was severely shaken, was taken into Mr Welch's shop, where everything possible was done for him, and 'he was subsequently driven to the residence of his sister Mrs Cromvoy, in Albert street, - where Dr. A. Hosking attended him.
