FURNISHING FALSE RETURNS.
PROMINENT POLITICIAN SENT TO GAOL.
ATTEMPTED SUICIDE. Received May 31,, 8.35 a.m. OTTAWA, May 30. Mr Philippe Roy, formerly Speaker of the Quebec Legislature, and manager of the defunct Banque of Sainte Jean, of Quebec, has been sentenced to five years' imprisonment for furnishing false Government returns.
After the sentence was delivered, Roy attempted to commit suicide.
