There was splendid weather to-day for the run of the Woodlands Hunt Club at Oete, and there was a good attendance of both huntsmen and spectators. FOOTBALL. KONINI v. MANGATAINOKA. The match beween Kunini and Mangatainoka took place at the former place this afternoon, and, as was anticipated, was a very hard and fast game from beginning to end. In the first spell the visitors played well against the wind and had Konini defending their line on more than one occasion. About the middle of the spell Konini worked the ball near to their opponents' goal, and B. "Smith passed out to S. Smith, who essayed a pot. The attempt was unsuccessful, but A. Benge smartly picked up the ball and scored an unexpected try under the posts, G. Smith placing a goal. Mangatainoka then set to work with a will, and Konini were forced twice. Play was in Konini territory for some time until a mark saved the situation. > In the second spell play was of an even nature for the first fifteen minutes. Forward rush after forward rush then followed, both sides in turn attacking and defending. From one rush A. Benge again scored under the pnsts for Konini, G. Smith adding the major points. Almost immediately afterwards from a similar rush E. Harvey succeeded in scoring for Mangatainoka, H. [ Cowan safely piloting *he leather j over the bar. Right to the end of the game both sides mode strenuous efforts to increase their score and on ■ two occasions the visitors were within an ace of scoring. When the whistle blew Konini were defending i their line. # i The match was by far the best I witnessed this season. Very ] few mistakes were made on either side, and the scores were obtained by good following \up.. Several passing rushes were started, but the collaring was too good to enable a score to be made. Every man on each side played well. Konini were a little heavier than their opponents in the forward division. Henry Benge and S. Smith stood out conspicuously among the Konini forwards. The visiting forwards played better together than in their previous matches, liyle, PilkingtoD, Cresswell and Harvey being the pick, and De Malmanche and W. Cade played well in the backs. Among the home backs, Smith (2) and Bain did good work. Dempsey and Sharp, the respective fullbacks, were very safe. Mr F. Morris was referee.
