WAIRARAPA SOUTH COUNTY COUNCIL.

(From Our Carterton Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Wairarapa 3outh County Council was held here on Saturday last,, Cr W. Perry presiding. The statement of finances showed a debit of £197 8s sd, receipts since laat meeting amounting to £166 19s 6d. Accounts totalling £371 17s 8d were passed for payment. , -It* was resolved to ; sue for all outstanding rates before next meeting.-" :;■. •'.:■ ,• • A cnmplaint was received from Mr E. T. Phelps, regarding the drain running in front of his property, its neglected state, he alleged, causing damage to his land. The feeling uf the-Council was that the persons interested should lay .some definite scheme, of., improvement .before the Council. - .

The Sanitary. Inspector reported that five cases of infectious disease had occurred during the past Month:. The secretary 'of the Mksterton Private Telephone Committee wrote asking the Council to move in the matter of getting legislature to give . local bodies : power to frame bylaws to control the working of private telephone lines, and tc, dedicate their power to a committee appointed by the Council.—Action in the matter was held over pending, further: information on the subject. The Martinborough, Town Board, Greytown Borough Council, and FeatherstonCounty Council forwarded their share of the licensing election expenses together with a protest against the excessive expenses, and it was decided to forward the protests on to the chief Electoral Officer.

A statement of expenditure incurred in connection with the upkeep of. the Waingawa Bridge was received, the Council's contribution being £l6 Is Id. v>/ , :

Messrs Robinson and Hand-New-ton, solicitors, wrote on kehalf of Mr C. ~A. Cameron, asking for a conference between themselves and the Council re the East Coast Road leading to Mr Cameron's property. County Council as to whether County Councils came under arbitration awards, and they; had given the opinion that they did. In reference to protective works at the Waiohine, the Council resolved to visit the locality/ The Engineer's report was read, and it was decided to patch, the worst portions of Park 'Road, and similar work is to'be done on Moreton Road. A dilapidated culvert on Park Road is to be replaced with pipes. The. Engineer, was instructed to report upon the matter of bridging the Hmaki stream.
