PAHIATUA NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter). Friday. The half-yearly meeting of Lodge Pahiatua, U.A.0.D., was held last evening. Tweny-six members wera present, and two new members were initiated into the Order, and six proposed for membership. A letter was received from "Eureka" Lodge asking for support for a sick brother in distress. Lodge contributions amounting to £23 16s 6d were paid in, and accounts amounting to £1 lis fid were passed for payment. The following nominations for officers for the ensuing half year were received:—A.D., Bro] Swiggs; V.A., Bro. J. H. Hall; A.B.'s, Bros. Hepburn and Finch; V.A.B.'s, Bros. Morris, Kerrison and Jacques; I G., Bro. H. Hall; 0.G., Bro. W. Yule; j Auditors, Bros. Burke and Yule; 1 Treasurer, Bro. Trezise; Secretary, 'y Bro. Wilton. On the motion of Bro. Godfrey Taylor, an appreciation of the retiring secretary's good work was recorded in the minute book. Bro. Hepburn donated 10s for the 1 member who succeeded in hinging the most new members into *he Order for the next quarter, and Bru. Zillwood as a second prize. Over twenty'members signified their intention of attendnig the social to be given by the Eketahuna Lodge on June 7th, It was decided to hsvc a pound night on n£xt Lodge A start was made to-day with ploughing operations at the new school site, in readiness for tree and shrub planting at a later date. The District High School broke up to-day tor the usual week's holiday. ™ Mr Allan Hughes, son of Mr J. Hughes, of this town, to-day received notice of his transfer to Morrinsville in the Auckland district. Mr Hughes has been in the Pahiatua Post Office for over three years, and has for some time past been acting as clerk on the telephone exchange. Mr Hughes leaves for Morrinsville on Monday morning. Another Ladies'THockey Club i& likely to be formed in this town. Mr G. H. Smith, solicitor, motored through to Palmerston North, this afternoon, to attend a sitting of the Supreme Court, which will open tomorrow, Mr Smith has been engaged on a case that affects a Pahiatua, resident. * ■' 1&. The Konini (Baihnce No 2.) Dairy Factory is now running every other day. and over 40 boxes of butter are on]alternate days. This is nearly double the output at the same period last year, which is accounted for by the mild season so far experienced. The I highest test with an average of about 4.8. All the butter is being made into single pounds tor New Zealand consumption. The factory will probably run all through the season. ' At a committee meetirg of the Woodlands Hunt Club held last evening several new members, both active and honorary, were elected. . A successful lone dance was held in the Olympic Theatre last evening. Several lovers of dancing were present from the country district? and supper was provided by the ladies. Good music was supplied by Mr C. Hicks.
