[(From Our Resident Reporter). Thursday. The work of lifting the northern end of McFarlane's bridge on to the piles just driven commenced to-day, and it is expected that tho bridge will be open for traffic in about three weeks' time. Those interested in bees and beekeeping will be pleased to know that Mr Richardson, 'A this town, received word this morning from Mr Robert Gibb, Government Apiarist, to the effect that he will deliver a lecture on the above subject in Pahiatua on June 7th or Bth insi. The pastime of skating is becoming popular and gpod attendances are seen each evening in the Theatre. A hockey match, played at Woodville, yesterday, between Woodville and Dannevirke B, was won by the former by 5 goals to nil. Dannevirke played with nine men A meeting of farmers and others interested will be held at Makairo on Monday evening to discuss the sub' ject, butter versus cheese, A children's dance, inaugurated by seveal ladies uf this town, held in the Drill Hall, last evening, was well attended, and was a decided success. Dr. Barnardo's Boys, accompanied by the Rev. Mayers, will visit Pabiatua, and give an entertainment in the Olympic Theatre at an early date. Mr W. Entwhistle, cabinetmaker, notifies in another column that he has removed to premises near the Post Office. AH Mr Entwhistle's furniture island-made out of well seasoned timber. A wedding in which considerable .interest is being taken, is shortly "to eventuate at Ballance. The Woodlands Hunt Club will hold a "meet" at Oete on Saturday next. The country selectd for the "run" this time will be different to that hunted over on the same place some weeks back. Preparations are well in hand for the opening ceremony of the Lower Gorge bridge. FOOTBALL.

The following are the fixtures for Junior matches drawn up by the Bush Rugby Union: —May 29th Mangatainoka v. Hukanui, at Mangatainoka; Nireaha v. Eketahuna, at Nireaha. June sth—Mangatainoka v. Nireaha, at Mangatainoka; Hpkanui v. Eketahuna, at Hukanui. Second round —Mangatainoka v. Eketahua, at Mangatainoka: Nireaha v. Hukanui, at Nireaha, and the remaining matches reversed from those given from May 29th. Woodville Seniors journeyed to Danrjovirke. yesterday, and drew with Dannevirke. There was no score on either side., and the game .was very fast and even. The Excelsiors and Aotea also met at the same place, the former winning by 11 points to nil. Excelsiors are now leading for the Dannevirke Sub-Union Championship. The following team will represent Mangatainoka against Konini on SaturdayClapham, Connor, Cade, Dungan (2), Harvey (2), Jackson, Lyle, Murphy, Creswell, Palmer, Mexted and Powell. Pahiatua have a bye on Saturday.
