HIGH CO VI MISS; ON F.R'* REPORT. The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cable from the High Commissinnt.* in London, dated the 22nd instant: — Mutton. —The mutton market is overs.ocktd and depressed, and is not likely to recover from the depression for some time. Canterbury is quoted 21d per lb, other than Canterbury 2gd per lb. River Plate mutton ig in large supply, and is being strongly purchased for sale. River Plate mutton is quoted at 2£d per lb. Lamb. —The lamb market is weak. Shipments of lamb now arriving are very heavy. The supply exceeds the demand, although low prices for lamb are increasing the output. Canterbury, 4£d per lb, other than Canterbury 4d per lb, Australian 3§d per lb. Beef. —The beef market is firm. There is a better demand tor beef. Stocks of New Zealand beef on hand are light, and supplies of American chilled beef are small. New Zealand 'hinds B£d per lb, New Zealand fores , 2|d per lb.
Butter. —The butter mai-ket is vei'y firm. Supplies ate decreasing on account of dry weather. There is a great demand in thu market. In order to secure supplies, choicest New Zealand 106s per cwt, Danish 116s Siberian 103s, Australian 102s. Cheese. —The cheese market is vfery firm. There is a good demand for cheese. There are small supplies of cheese on hand. White 655, coloured 675. Hemp.—Tha hemp market is quiet,but moderate business doing. Theve is a better demand for Manila from America. The market it dependent on Manila reports. New Zealand good fair grade on spot per ton £22 15s. New Zealand fair grade on spot per ton £2l 10s, fair-current Ma-iila , nn spot per ton £2l ICs. May to ■July shipments New Zealand good j fair per ton £22 10s, New Zealand ! fair grade per ton £2l, fair current Manila £2l. Manila output 169,000 bales. i Cocksfoot. —The cocksfoot seed | market is very quiet; no business doing. Wheat.—The wheat market is firmer, and very likely to continue. Oats. —The market is firm, and j prices continue to advance.
