CARTERTON NEWS.
(From Our Resident Reporter.) Monday. To-morrow evening the installation of the newly elected Mayor (Mr A. Armstrong) and the Councillors will take place. Empire Day passed off here practically unobserved. The schools and banks were closed, and the New Zealand Ensign was flown from the Post Office. Constable Carmody, who has been absent from here on sick leave, returned home on Saturday, having completely recovered. He spent the holiday In Napier. The new settlers on Carrington Estate contemplate milking 700 cows next season, and will become suppliers to thb Belvedere Co-operative Dairy Factory. The directors of the Company will issue new shares to the new settlers on the basis of their respective number of cows, and will , put on a brick addition to the fac-' tory, capable of accommodating the vats. The "shoot" of the local Gun Club, to have been held on Thursday afternoon next, has been postponed on account of the Greytown Club having i arranged a "shoot" for that date.
